Maverick Costa Rica Fleet 2022 Refit

It should be no surprise that the Maverick Costa Rica fleet catches many fish each year. That is, after all, what we do around here! But when we say “a lot of fish,” we’re talking about an average of 3500 pounds… per boat. So after seeing that quantity of blue marlin, sailfish, and yellowfin, our fleet inevitably requires yearly maintenance to keep things running smoothly, safely, and up to our (very high) standards.

Our yearly maintenance usually starts in October and can last for a few weeks or months, depending on each yacht’s needs. Maverick Costa Rica’s maintenance division helps to care for the fleet on a day-to-day basis, keeping a careful eye and detailed records to ensure that this more extensive yearly maintenance is as comprehensive as possible. This annual maintenance includes extensive engine repair and maintenance, sanding and polishing of teak decking, and significant technology upgrades like sea keeper and Omni Sonar.

This year, Super Fly is receiving a refit after we found four sailfish and two marlin bills lodged in the transom. This is surprisingly common, considering how many billfish these boats encounter yearly. However, this does require our attention to ensure the longevity and integrity of the boat.

And finally, our legendary boat Spanish Fly is in for her third total refit. We’re coming up on Spanish Fly’s 20th charter season here in Costa Rica, and she will look like a brand-new boat. These more extensive refits take a bit more time, but they help ensure that Spanish Fly stays in excellent condition and will be well-equipped for another 20 seasons!
